How to make your own Breadcrumbs

By Chioma 6 Comments

Breadcrumbs are used as binders, thickeners or coating for foods and also gives an added crunchy coating to fried foods.   It is one of the vital and versatile ingredients that you may want to include in your kitchen. Breadcrumbs are available in shops, but you can easily make a quick one if you don’t want to use the store bought ones.

I for one prefer making mine and it is as easy as putting some slices of bread (you can use stale bread or even the sides cut of from the fresh bread) in the oven for about 10 minutes or till crispy. Then put in a blender and whizz to a fine texture. Fresh or stale bread works fine and you can store in the freezer if you make a big batch…I’d rather make small quantities though.

Off you go and try making yours and you can add some flavor to it too…pepper, salt and spices.

Try these recipes with your breadcrumbs, yam croquette, stuffed yam balls, chicken nuggets.

If you don’t have an oven or blender, you can also make your breadcrumbs easily. Click here to read how to do that.

Also find here some other foods that you can use in place of breadcrumbs in some recipes.

Of course Anny. I used wheat wholemeal breadcrumbs for the chicken nuggets.
