Minced meat ogbono soup is a sister to meatball ogbono soup, the only difference being that the kids will enjoy every mouthful of fufu with meat-filled soup.
This is Nigerian Ogbono soup made in another kid-friendly way but you know what…adults can enjoy it too. You can also make this soup your own by adding other ingredients that your child loves, for example chopped okro, ground fish, as well as pepper if they love the heat.

Ingredients:
- 400g minced or ground meat
- ¼ cup ground ogbono
- 1 cooking spoon palm oil
- 3 tablespoons ground crayfish
- 1 medium chopped onions
- 1 small locust beans/okpei/iru/dawadawa ( i grate mine on a grater)
- ½ of a seasoning cube (i use this in place of salt)
- Bunch of green vegetable (ugu, kale, collard green, spinach)
- 2-3 cups water for cooking (and extra if needed)
Method:
- Put a dry pot on medium heat and add the palm oil. Fry onions in heated oil for about a minute.
- Add the minced meat and break it up with your spoon to desired lumps while stirring to combine with oil and brown.
- Once meat is browned, stir in the ogbono and mix well. Add water and cover to cook for about 15 minutes.
- Add crayfish, locust beans and seasoning cube. Stir and simmer for about 2 minutes.
- Finally, add the washed and chopped vegetables. Stir well to combine and remove from heat.
- Serve with soft textured eba, semo, amala or oatmeal.

Will covering d pot while cooking not make d soup watery? As in it won’t draw when u cover d soup while cooking.
Chioma says
Chioma, the video shows it all. It does not make it watery but if you prefer to leave yours open, it doesn’t make any difference to me.
