Popcorn is a much loved snack for kids and it is the go-to snack which is sold at cinemas and other fun places where there are kids’ activities. They also make a good lunchbox snack (much healthier than cookies and crisps) because they are wholegrains that are high in fibre and antioxidants .
The commercially sold popcorn can be unnecessarily high in sugar which is not good for kids. You can however make your own popcorn at home for the kids with three ( ok four) simple ingredients and a pot. Scroll down to watch the video if you prefer it.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup popcorn (This is a variety of corn which you must specifically ask for)
- Runny honey to taste (if yours is not runny, then melt it to easily pour)
- Powdered milk to taste
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Method:
- Place a deep dry pot on medium heat and pour in the oil. Once heated, add the popcorn, shake the pot to ensure an even spread, cover and allow to pop while shaking intermittently.
- Once the popping sound stops, remove from heat and transfer to a bowl immediately.
- Stir in the powdered milk and toss well, then add the honey and mix well.
- If you like, you can spread on a tray and put in the oven for about 3 minutes, otherwise stop at step 3 and serve.
