Carrot and peas mashed potatoes is a wholesome meal for babies from 9 months and it encourages them to start getting used to chewing foods as against purees which they were started with from 6 months.
Introducing chewy and lumpy foods to your baby not only broadens the variety of food you can offer, but also helps them develop their biting and chewing skills, strengthens their jaw muscles and as well improve their ability to start talking i.e. speech development.
You may sometimes be concerned about them choking or gagging on their food, but i would say it is ideal to start early and slowly introduce these lumpy foods with close supervision. I assure you, they get better with time rather than you taking them a step back out of fear…remember, practice makes perfect.
